Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how LeptonO Inc. (“LeptonO”, “we”, “us”), the company behind the AquaElectron mobile application for Android, iPhone and iPad (the “App”), collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App and when you visit our website at aquaelectron.com (the “Site”). Most of this policy is about the App; section 6 covers the Site, which collects far less. AquaElectron is an aquarium-management app that stores your tanks, livestock, parameters, expenses, tasks, and notes in your account so they sync across your devices.

We aim to collect only what the App needs to work. We do not sell your personal information for money. Depending on where you live, sharing device or advertising identifiers with an ad partner (see Advertising), or sharing Site browsing data with Meta through the Meta Pixel (see Our website & cookies), may still be considered a “sale” or “share” under some laws (for example, California’s CPRA). You can opt out at any time: in the App, by limiting ad tracking in your device settings or by subscribing to Premium, which turns ads off entirely; on the Site, through “Cookie settings” in the footer — and where the law requires opt-in consent (see Our website & cookies) the Pixel is off until you accept it.

2. Data we collect

2.1 Information you provide

• Account details — your email address and, if you use social sign-in, the name and email shared by Google or Apple. (Apple may relay a private/anonymized email if you choose “Hide My Email.”)
• Profile information — your name, optional profile picture, and preferences such as country, currency, and unit system.
• Your content — aquarium records, livestock entries and growth logs, photos you upload, water-parameter readings, expenses, tasks, journal entries, equipment, and tags. To attach a photo, the App asks for permission to access your photo library; we only read the specific photo you choose, and it is uploaded to your account.
• Support messages — information you include when you contact support.

2.2 Information collected automatically

• Diagnostics & crash data — crash reports and basic stability/diagnostic data to help us fix problems (via Google Firebase Crashlytics).
• Advertising identifiers — on the free (ad-supported) tier, Google AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier to serve and measure ads, subject to your device’s privacy settings and Google’s privacy policy. See Advertising for details.
• Technical data — limited device/app information (such as app version and OS) needed to operate the service.
• Website visits — unless you have declined (or, where we ask first, until you accept), the Meta Pixel collects information about your visit to the Site as described in Our website & cookies. Nothing is collected from visitors who decline.

Notification permission — if you allow notifications, the App schedules task reminders (for example, an upcoming water change) directly on your device. These are local, on-device notifications, not push notifications, so your reminder schedule is never sent to or stored on our servers.

3. How we use data

• To create and secure your account and authenticate sign-in.
• To store, sync, and display your content across your devices.
• To provide and manage subscriptions and unlock Premium features.
• To show advertising on the free tier and to remove it for Premium users.
• To measure whether our own advertising for the App on Facebook and Instagram is working (Site only, subject to your cookie choice).
• To diagnose crashes, maintain stability, and improve the App.
• To respond to support requests and communicate service-related notices.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

4. Service providers

We share data with the following providers strictly to operate the App and the Site, and only what each needs for its purpose. Each processes data under its own terms and privacy policy, and we use providers whose terms commit them to protecting your data to a standard at least equal to this policy and to the requirements of the app stores we distribute through.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a business transfer.

5. Advertising

On the free tier, the App shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob’s collection and use of data — including any use of your device’s advertising identifier and similar signals to select and measure ads — is governed by Google’s privacy policy and by the privacy controls of your device: on Android you can reset or opt out of ad personalization in your device settings, and on iOS the platform’s privacy settings apply. Advertising is not linked to your AquaElectron account: we do not share your account details, email address or aquarium records with AdMob. You can remove ads entirely, at any time, by subscribing to Premium.

Separately, we advertise the App on Facebook and Instagram and, subject to your cookie choice, use the Meta Pixel on our website to measure those ads. That is covered in Our website & cookies below and does not affect the App.

6. Our website & cookies

This section is about aquaelectron.com (the “Site”) rather than the App. The Site is an informational website: it has no accounts, forms or comments, and on its own it sets no cookies. It keeps two small preferences in your browser’s local storage — your light/dark theme and your cookie choice — and neither leaves your device.

6.1 Meta Pixel (optional)

We advertise the App on Facebook and Instagram. To measure whether those ads work, the Site can load the Meta Pixel, a measurement tool provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited for people in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland). Where the law requires opt-in consent — the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Quebec — the Pixel does not run until you accept it: it is loaded only if you choose Accept in the cookie banner, and if you choose Decline nothing is loaded and nothing is sent to Meta. We work out where you are from your browser’s time-zone and language settings, not from your IP address, and when that is unclear we ask first. Elsewhere the Pixel runs by default and we show a one-time notice instead — choose Settings in that notice, or Cookie settings in the footer later, to turn it off at any time. Wherever you are, if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal the Pixel stays off unless you explicitly accept it, and you can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Declining after the Pixel has run stops any further data being sent and removes the Pixel’s cookies from your browser.

When it runs, the Pixel sends Meta information about your visit: the pages you view and when (including the page title and metadata), the page you came from, your IP address, browser and device information, and — if you arrived from a Meta ad — the click identifier in the link (fbclid). It sets a cookie named _fbp on aquaelectron.com and, when you arrive from a Meta ad, a second one named _fbc; both expire after 90 days. If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link this activity to your Meta account. Meta uses the data to give us aggregated reports about our ads and may also use it for its own purposes, as described in Meta’s Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy. Depending on where you live, this may count as a “sale” or “share” of personal information (see Overview); declining or withdrawing consent is how you opt out.

The Pixel never receives your AquaElectron account details, email address or aquarium records, and it is not used inside the App. You can further control how Meta uses data from websites like ours in your Meta ad preferences and off-Facebook activity settings.

6.2 Fonts and icons

The Site’s typefaces are served by Google Fonts, and the home page’s icons by the cdnjs content-delivery network (operated by Cloudflare). When a page loads, your browser requests those files directly from Google or Cloudflare, which necessarily sends them your IP address and standard browser information. Google states that these requests are not used for advertising or profiling; see Google Fonts’ privacy FAQ.

7. Subscriptions

Premium subscriptions are purchased through Google Play (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS) and managed via RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status and a pseudonymous identifier so the App can unlock Premium features. We do not receive or store your payment-card information; that is handled by Google Play or Apple.

8. Storage & retention

Your account data and content records are stored in our backend (Supabase), and photos you upload are stored with Cloudflare (R2) and delivered over its CDN. Both are retained while your account is active. We keep information as long as needed to provide the App, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. When you delete your account, your content is removed as described below; some records may persist in backups or with providers for a limited period before being overwritten, and aggregated or de-identified data may be retained.

9. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:

• View and edit your profile and content directly in the App.
• Delete your account and content from within the App at any time.
• Manage ad and tracking preferences in your device settings.
• Accept or decline optional cookies on the Site, and change that choice at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer of every page.
• Contact us to exercise any applicable data rights.

10. Account & data deletion

You can permanently delete your account from within the App (Profile / settings → delete account). This removes your profile and the content associated with your account from our active systems. Deletion is irreversible. Deleting your account does not cancel a Premium subscription — cancel that with the store you bought from (Google Play or Apple). 11. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including encrypted connections and access controls provided by our backend — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your account credentials confidential.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated where required.
